Engines and trims
The Scenic E-Tech offers two batteries: the standard-range car around 260 miles official, and the long-range 87kWh version stretching past 370 official miles — the one that makes petrol-free family life genuinely easy. Trims run Evolution, Techno, Esprit Alpine/Iconic; Techno upwards brings the big Google-based screen and the clever Solarbay opacity-switching panoramic roof on higher cars. MPV-era Scenics ran TCe petrols and dCi diesels with EDC options and huge, sliding-seat cabins.
What to check before buying
Electric Scenic checks are the standard EV file plus family wear: battery State of Health report, both cables, a rapid-charge test (150kW peak on the big battery), software currency, and every camera and sensor working. Inspect the boot, seat backs and Isofix points, and operate the Solarbay roof through its modes where fitted. On MPV-era cars, the checklist is age-appropriate: EDC behaviour, diesel DPF health on town cars, suspension knocks, sliding-seat mechanisms, and electrical gremlins — test everything twice. Running costs
The E-Tech’s home-charged economy transforms family budgets — a few pence per mile — with modest servicing and mainstream insurance. MPV-era cars are cheap to buy and run but old enough to need a maintenance contingency.
Verdict
A long-range Scenic E-Tech Techno with a clean battery report is one of the best used family EVs money currently buys — award-winning for good reason and depreciation-priced. The old MPVs remain honest budget haulers when the history stacks up.
