Used Renault Arkana Buying Guide
The Arkana (2021-2024 in the UK) brought coupe-SUV style to family-car money — a swoopy roofline over Captur-derived underpinnings, sold mainly as the E-Tech 145 hybrid with a TCe 140 mild-hybrid petrol alongside. Discontinued for the UK as the range reshuffled, it’s now a used-only proposition with plenty of choice.
Engines and trims
The E-Tech 145 full hybrid mirrors the Clio/Captur system: strong town economy, no plug required. The TCe 140 suits buyers who prefer a conventional automatic feel. Trim ran Iconic, S Edition and R.S. Line (later Techno/Esprit Alpine naming) — R.S. Line’s sportier cabin suits the shape. Despite the roofline, rear headroom is adult-acceptable and the boot genuinely big; the styling costs less practicality than it appears to.
What to check before buying
Mechanical checks follow the Captur playbook: hybrid handover smoothness and warning-light checks on E-Tech cars, and on TCe versions a clean, prompt dual-clutch shift at low speed — hesitant or jerky examples need a specialist opinion. Software niggles on early infotainment were common and update-fixable; confirm currency. The coupe roof means checking the (optional) sunroof drains and looking for water traces in the boot corners. Style-led cars attract style-led owners: inspect alloys, bumper corners and interior trim for cosmetic carelessness, and use findings in negotiation. Then the file: full service history, even MOT mileage progression, and a comprehensive car check for finance and accident history — coupe-SUVs were PCP favourites, so outstanding finance checks earn their keep.
Running costs
E-Tech cars deliver mid-50s mpg around town; the TCe sits in the low 40s. Insurance and consumables match the Captur’s low bar. Nothing about the Arkana costs coupe money to run — that’s rather the point.
Verdict
An E-Tech R.S. Line with history is a lot of style and economy for family-hatch money. Confirm gearbox manners and software updates, and the Arkana makes a characterful, sensible used pick.
