About Car Guide
Car Guide exists to save you from a bad car purchase. We publish plain-English guides to buying, checking, financing and selling used cars in the UK — written by people who have spent their working lives in the trade, in vehicle data, in motor finance and in consumer rights.
We’re independent, we name the catches as well as the benefits, and we update our guides when the facts change. When we recommend running a vehicle history check before buying, it’s because every one of us has seen what happens when buyers skip it.
Meet the editors
Priya — Car Finance Editor. Twelve years in motor finance, from dealership finance desks to broker panels. Priya writes our car finance, leasing and subscription guides. Her golden rule: judge every deal on the total amount payable, never the monthly payment.
Marcus — Vehicle Data & Provenance Editor. Eight years investigating vehicle provenance — clocked odometers, cloned plates and quietly re-registered write-offs. Marcus writes our history check, MOT and DVLA guides.
Elaine — Motor Trade Editor. Nearly twenty years in showrooms, used-car sales management, part-exchange valuations and trade auctions. Elaine writes our buying, selling and model-by-model guides, giving private buyers the information the trade takes for granted.
Tomasz — Consumer Rights Editor. A decade of consumer-rights casework, much of it motor-trade disputes: faulty used cars, warranty small print and distance-selling arguments. Tomasz writes our guides to your rights when things go wrong — and he reads the terms and conditions so you don’t have to.
How we work
- Verify first. Market facts, prices and rules are checked against current sources before we publish, and official services are linked directly (GOV.UK, DVLA, DVSA).
- Honest dates. The “last updated” date on a guide changes only when the content genuinely does.
- Plain English. If a finance structure or legal right can’t be explained simply, we keep working until it can.
- No pressure. Our job is to inform your decision, not to rush it. Where we link to a partner, it never changes what we write.
