The Range Rover Sport is the driver’s Range Rover, and Britain buys them in droves. Used interest centres on the L494 (2013-2022) and the current L461 (2022 on). Engines and trims
L494 volume sits with the 3.0 SDV6 diesel — strong and characterful — plus 4.4 SDV8s, supercharged petrols and the P400e plug-in hybrid from 2018. The SVR is its own ferocious thing and deserves a specialist inspection. The L461 mirrors the big car: D300/D350 diesels as the rational picks, P440e/P510e hybrids for charge-at-home drivers, V8s for the committed. HSE and Dynamic trims dominate; 5+2 seating was an L494 option worth seeking for families.
What to check before buying
Air suspension checks are identical to the Range Rover: full height cycling, compressor noise, overnight sag. On SDV6 L494s, the history should show cooling-system attention and honest oil-change intervals; listen for top-end rattle from cold. Inspect wheels and tyres carefully — big alloys kerb easily and geometry knocks out, shown by inner-edge tyre wear. Hybrids must prove real-world electric range and healthy charging. Running costs
